Police: Mother, Toddler Struck By Car In Morris County Crosswalk

A mother and her 4-year-old child were struck by a car while walking in a marked crosswalk in Morris County Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The 41-year-old mother was walking with her child in the crosswalk at Main Street and Coleman Avenue in Chatham when they were hit by a 22-year-old man from Gaithersburg, Maryland just after 7:05 a.m., Chatham Police said.

Both the mother and child were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The driver was issued traffic summonses for careless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court.

The traffic unit, detective bureau and the Morris County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigative Section also assisted at the scene, authorities said.
